The New 2025 BMW X5 is Here at BMW of Milwaukee North

The BMW X5 is a midsize SUV that sits right in the middle of BMW’s SUV lineup. It’s trendy for many reasons, but it all comes down to balance. The X5 is not too big or small and has just the right mix of luxury and performance.

For this year’s model, BMW sticks to its winning recipe, with a few small changes here and there.

This article will tell you everything you need to know about the 2025 BMW X5 to help you decide if it’s the right car for you. If you want more general car-buying tips, check out our Research Hub.

2025 BMW X5 Specs

BMW sets the standard for performance, and the X5 delivers in multiple trim options. This year’s models use BMW’s 48V mild-hybrid system, seamlessly integrating electric power to boost efficiency. The most powerful X5 is the M Competition trim, tuned to an incredible 617 horsepower and 554 lb-ft of torque from its 4.4L twin turbo V8. This allows a 3.7-second 0-60 time and 155 mph top speed—supercar territory for an SUV.

Even the “slowest” X5 hits 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds courtesy of a smooth inline 6-cylinder engine. This 3.0L twin turbo also powers the plug-in hybrid variant, supplemented by electric motors, to enable 38 miles of emissions-free electric driving. BMW’s renowned xDrive intelligent AWD is standard across the board.

Luxury leather seats and sophisticated interior of the 2025 BMW X5.

The 2025 X5 is a midsize SUV that seats five passengers in the lap of luxury. The seats are comfy and supportive, which is great for long drives. Of course, they also have fancy features like power adjustment, heating and cooling, and even massage functions. Interior personalization extends to the color of leather upholstery, with sensuous hues like Cognac Brown and Silverstone available.

One neat feature you don’t see in many other cars is heated front armrests, which can be nice on cold days. The X5 also has lots of cargo space. With the back seats folded down, you get 72.3 cubic feet of cargo space. The split-tailgate design makes it easy to load and unload things. Every X5 comes with a massive glass roof called the Panoramic Sky Lounge LED Roof.

That iconic X5 silhouette returns for 2025, proudly wearing its sport utility vehicle mission. A large kidney grille gives it that unmistakable Beamer face, flanked by adaptive LED headlights to illuminate the road ahead.

The wheels on the X5 are big and impressive. They can be up to 22 inches wide with the option of being run-flat tires, which means you can keep driving even if you get a flat. Depending on which trim level you pick, you can choose from 10-12 colors for the outside of your X5.

When you sit inside the X5, you’ll first notice the 14.9-inch curved screen. This screen makes the dashboard look sleek and modern. It runs on BMW Operating System 8.5 and works wirelessly with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Remote software upgrades ensure the tech stays fresh over time.

The X5 also has an intelligent assistant you can talk to. It’s like Siri or Alexa but for your car. You can ask it for services like changing the temperature or finding a gas station.

The 2025 X5 continues the safety features that made last year’s model an IIHS Top Safety Pick. It comes standard with smart safety features like Active Blind Spot Detection, which warns you if there’s a car in your blind spot, and Frontal Collision Warning with City Collision Mitigation, which can help prevent crashes.

BMW’s Highway Assistant, newly upgraded, enables hands-free driving at speeds up to 85 mph by controlling acceleration, braking, and steering.

2025 BMW X5 Trim Levels

The 2025 BMW X5 comes in four versions, or “trim levels.” Each is quite different, so it’s essential to think about which is right for you. As soon as they’re released, we’ll have all these versions available at our BMW dealership in Milwaukee, WI.

2025 bmw x5 sdrive40i/xdrive40i trim level

First is the only X5 with rear-wheel drive (the sDrive40i). It’s also the most affordable X5. It sits on 20-inch wheels with run-flat tires and a roof spoiler with a brake light in the middle. The sDrive40i/xDrive40i has an 8-speed automatic transmission. You can shift gears yourself using paddles on the steering wheel. Launch Control is a joy to be experienced at least once.

Inside, you get Sensafin seats and wood trim. The sound system is a respectable HiFi Sound System. Rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights, and various memory settings complete the offering.

This is the plug-in hybrid version of the X5. This electrified variant can silently cruise for up to 38 miles on battery power alone. Electric motors team up with a turbocharged inline-6 gasoline engine to generate 483 net horsepower. The standard BMW Charging program facilitates public and at-home charging to stay topped up.

A customized EV display within the central touchscreen provides battery level, electric driving range, charging status, and energy flow details.

2025 bmw x5 m60i trim level

Performance and style surge to new levels in the M60i variant. A 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 churns out 536 horsepower, rocketing this luxury SUV to 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds. Upgraded M Sport suspension, brakes, and differential put that power on the pavement. The free-flowing M Sport quad exhaust announces acceleration, and exclusive metallic colors like Marina Bay Blue join the exterior color palette.

The wheels can be up to 22 inches with M Sport Brakes, and you can choose between blue or red brake calipers. With this X5, you can use the My BMW App to start your car remotely. Inside, you get improved sound thanks to the Harman Kardon Surround Sound System. You also get a head-up display that shows information on the windshield, and the front seats gain ventilation.

Finally, we have the fastest, most track-ready version of the X5. It has a special M Sport Exhaust System, carbon fiber body parts, and unique M Shadowline Lights. This edition also has the M Track Mode, which changes how the car behaves to make it better for driving on a racetrack. When you’re in this mode, you can see special information on the 12.3-inch screen behind the steering wheel.

The brakes have six pistons in front and special holes to help them cool down quickly. A special M sound control button controls the exhaust’s volume. Inside, the M Competition has a special roof liner made of Alcantara.

The BMW X5 2024 vs 2025 is quite a tight matchup. The 2025 X5 gets a little facelift with a tweaked front bumper and grille design. But the real star of the show is the upgraded lane-change assist feature, making highway driving smoother than ever.

Most 2025 X5 models have joined the “no spare tire” club, a trend many automakers are following to save space and weight. The M Competition trim is the only one that comes with a space-saver spare. For other trims, you might want to brush up on your run-flat tire know-how or keep that roadside assistance number handy.

The 2025 BMW X5 keeps it exclusive as a five-seater. If you need room for more, take a look at our guide for the bigger 2025 BMW X7.
