2024 BMW 5 SERIES VS 2024 BMW i5

Serving Milwaukee, WI

The 2024 BMW 5 Series ushers in the model’s eighth generation with extensive engineering, technologies, and style improvements. The 2024 i5 joins the BMW lineup and is offered as an all-electric luxury sedan next to the 5 Series. How do the refreshed 5 Series and the all-new i5 compare in critical areas?

Performance

The 2024 5 Series is offered in three trim levels: 530i, 530i xDrive, and 540i xDrive. The first two options have a mild-hybrid, turbo four-cylinder engine that puts out 255 horsepower. The 540i xDrive has a 375-horsepower, turbo inline six-cylinder engine. The all-electric i5 has two electric motors with all-wheel drive. The battery range is 295 miles, and you can get a quick charge up to 80% in under 30 minutes. Its zero-to-60 time is 5.3 seconds.

Appearance

The new look of the 2024 BMW 5 Series is undeniably modern and prestigious—the long, intentionally angled hood pairs with a sleek arch over the roof. The wheels have a triangle-style spoke design. The slender and pointed LED headlights on the nose fade dramatically to the rear, and the lower air inlets have a wide, triangular shape. The kidney-shaped grille is outlined in chrome and tapers upward for a unique touch. The i5, on the other hand, has a comparable profile with modest, smooth accentuation on the sides. Along the lower door panels, a curved element is prominently defined. The nose has a similar grille and headlights, and these pair with an upturned lower fascia and sporty air inlets.

Features

You can appreciate many of the same features in the 5 Series and the i5. Some of these are extensive infotainment and driver’s instrument screens paired under the same glass housing, a new BMW infotainment system, a touch-sensitive interactive bar, leather or leather-free interior materials, heated seats, an extensive selection of safety technologies, a sunroof, a push-button ignition, a navigation system, voice commands, wireless connections for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, several USB-C ports, a wireless charging pad, hands-free highway driving and more.
